Nebuta and Neputa are a type of Tanabata-related summer festival held in towns around Aomori Prefecture. The largest of these festivals is the Nebuta Matsuri (ねぶた祭) of Aomori City, held every year from August 2 to 7. The highlight of the festival is the daily parade of enormous lantern floats, flanked by large taiko drums, musicians and dancers. The Nebuta Matsuri is one of the three great festivals of the Tohoku Region (Tohoku Sandai Matsuri) alongside Akita's Kanto Matsuri and Sendai's Tanabata.

The main attraction is large, colorful and dramatic human-shaped floats called Nebuta, 9 meters wide, 7 meters deep and 5 meters high, most of them resembling ancient warlords, historical characters and kabuki characters in early days. These floats parade through the streets of Aomori, with Haneto dancers bouncing down the streets to the exciting music of Nebuta bayashi bands.

Dancers in the Nebuta Festival are known as hanetos. They dance and bounce down the street with the nebutas, as people cheer “Rassera, Rassera.” Anyone can join the dance as long as they wear a haneto costume, which is part of the festival’s appeal. And Haneto costumes can be purchased at department stores in Aomori City, and elsewhere. Some stores rent and help you put on the costume.

Asahiyama Zoo (旭山動物園, Asahiyama Dōbutsuen) is a very popular zoological garden just outside of central Asahikawa City in the middle of Hokkaido. Its popularity lies in the enclosures which allow visitors to observe the animals from various angles, many of which are unique to Asahiyama Zoo.

Highlights include a glass tunnel through the penguin pool that allows visitors to observe the birds' underwater flights, and small glass domes in the middle of the polar bear and wolf enclosures that can get visitors right among the animals. The zoo was also one of the first to organize penguin walks in winter. Work on new enclosures and improvements to existing ones is constantly ongoing.

Animals on display include native wildlife from Hokkaido, including deer, eagles, cranes and (now extinct) wolves, as well as various animals from across the world, such as polar bears, apes, big cats and giraffes. If possible, try to visit the zoo outside of weekends and holidays to reduce the crowds.

Fort Goryokaku (五稜郭, Goryōkaku) is a massive, star-shaped, Western-style citadel, which was built in the last years of the Edo Period (1603-1868) for the defense of Hakodate against the imperialist threat posed by the Western powers. A few years later, the fort became the site of a civil war between an army of the shogunate and the superior troops of the newly established Meiji government.

After the fort had lost its military importance, it was eventually turned into a public park in the 1910s. Over one thousand cherry trees were planted along its moats, making it one of Hokkaido's best cherry blossom spots. The peak of the blooming season usually takes place around early May.

The Sapporo TV Tower (さっぽろテレビ塔, Sapporo Terebi-tō), built in 1957, is a 147.2-metre-high (483 ft) TV tower with an observation deck at a height of 90.38 metres. Located on the ground of Odori Park, in the northern city of Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, the tower is open to tourists. Tourists can view Sapporo and Odori Park. 🗼

Nankinmachi (南京町) is a compact Chinatown in central Kobe and a center of the Chinese community in the Kansai Region. 👲🥮

The area was developed by Chinese merchants who settled near Kobe Port after the port was opened to foreign trade in 1868.

Today, Nankinmachi is a popular tourist attraction and shopping and dining district. Two main streets run through the district, meeting each other at a small plaza in the center.

The Great Buddha of Kamakura (鎌倉大仏) is an outdoor bronze statue of Amida Buddha located on the grounds of Kotoku-in Temple in Kanagawa Prefecture.

Standing at the height of approximately 13.35 meters, it is one of the largest and the most renowned bronze Buddha statues in Japan.

Once housed in a huge hall, the Great Buddha today sits in the open air because the building was washed away by a tsunami in 1498.

镰仓大佛位于古都镰仓的净土宗寺院高德院内的阿弥陀如来青铜坐像俗称镰仓大佛，是古都镰仓的象征，大佛净高11.3米，连台座高13.35米，重约121吨。

佛像建造于1252年，大佛的较平的面相、较低的肉髻和前倾的姿势等，具有镰仓时代流行的宋代佛像的风格，是镰仓时期的代表性塑像，被定为日本国宝。

与奈良东大寺大佛在后世经历多次补修不同，镰仓大佛基本保持了造像当初的形态，所以非常珍贵。

The Wada House（和田家）is the largest of the Gassho-zukuri settlement in Shirakawa Village.

Built late in the Edo period (1603–1867), the house reflects the wealth and status of the Wada family, which for centuries was the largest landowner in the village of Ogimachi and whose members held the hereditary position of village headman (nanushi).
.
Taking photos is allowed inside the house. Remember to take some photos next to the Irori (fireplace) if you come here.

Kinkakuji (金閣寺, Golden Pavilion) is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf.

Kinkakuji is an impressive structure built overlooking a large pond, and is the only building left of Yoshimitsu's former retirement complex.

It has burned down numerous times throughout its history including twice during the Onin War, a civil war that destroyed much of Kyoto; and once again more recently in 1950 when it was set on fire by a fanatic monk.

The present structure was rebuilt in 1955. It is a must visit temple in Kyoto, if you ever visit Kyoto, do not forget to visit here!

金阁寺，全称北山鹿苑寺，属于禅宗临济宗大相国寺派，因寺中舍利殿富丽堂皇，妆点金箔，大家惯称其为金阁寺，听起来倒是比本名阔气许多。清雅总是不如豪华引人瞩目。金阁寺并非开宗立派的大寺，却因为是足利义满退位后的宅邸，又是北山文化的开山处和代表，在文化史上的地位不容小觑。
